Food: Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant @ Bangsar Shopping Centre

German food is one of my favourites because I'm a big fan of sausages. Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant is definitely not a foreign name for German cuisine in Malaysia and they have outlets at Mid Valley, Sunway Pyramid and Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC).

Last weekend, I was delighted to be invited for a review at the BSC outlet and I was introduced to so many different German food. It's not all about sausages only at Brotzeit. For the unitiated, 'brot' means bread and 'zeit' means time, therefore when put together the restaurant's name stands for bread time.

The bar where you can enjoy your glass of fine German beer while admiring the beautifully decorated bar counter.

The outdoor space for those who prefer to dine under natural sunlight or moonlight.

We were served items from the breakfast menu, lunch specials, bar bites, core menu and of course, desserts. So, feast your eyes on these picture perfect dishes. Well, just make sure you have a handkerchief with you to wipe away those drools. :)

BREAKFAST MENU

Brotzeit Signature Breakfast (RM 32.50) - available daily until 3pm
This is a good choice for those who prefers a filling breakfast. It comes with a combination of hot and cold; hot (two farm fresh fried eggs, strips of streaky bacon and two nuremberger sausages on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes) and cold (two open sliders of honey baked ham, belly bacon, emmenthal and cream cheese on a bed of multi-corn bread). This breakfast set comes with a complimentary cup of coffee or tea.

Hangover Breakfast (RM 30.50) - top up RM 5.50 for a short glass or Radler
This choice of breakfast is pretty special as it is only available on Sundays & public holidays until 3pm. It has a cheeky name and as the name suggests, the combination is great to cure a hangover especially after a party night out on Saturdays. This set consist of farm fresh fried egg, smoked salmon, strips of gypsy belly bacon and a bowl of beef goulash soup with a laugen bread roll.

LUNCH SPECIALS

The lunch specials are served from 11am to 3pm daily except on Sundays and Public Holidays. Each comes with a free ice lemon tea and prices start at RM16. There is a lunch card promo and every lunch ordered is entitled to one stamp and after the 4th, 8th and 12th meals, there is a food favour reward!

Pork Chili con Carne with German Egg Noodles (RM 16.00)
Personally, I found the egg noodles are pretty similar to our regular 'pan mee'. But, the difference is that, this has a slightly stickier and bouncy texture to it because its made from eggs. It's a bit bland to eat just the noodles on its own, so mix it with some pork chili con carne and it will enhance the flavour of the noodles.

Gypsy Belly Bacon Carbonara (RM 17.50)
This was a milder, less creamy version of carbonara. It was made using the same German egg noodles and some bacon was added in it. You may choose to add on a soup for RM 5.00 or green salad for RM 7.00. With any add on, you will enjoy a free dessert of the day.

BAR BITES

Mini Brotzeit Platter (RM 35.00)
A good choice for a mid day snack; when you're craving for something to munch on, this is great. I love cheese, so I really enjoyed this platter which comes with Gouda & Ementhal Cheeses, cold cut cuts of belly bacon, and honey baked ham plus 3 spreads, bacon, cream cheese and pork liver pate, topped with some pickles and olives.

Pigs In Blanket (RM 20.00)
These pork cheese sausages were wrapped in gypsy belly bacon and seared to perfection. It comes with a side of spicy wedges.

Spicy Chicken Sausage (RM 17.00)
Spicy chicken sausages sauteed  with onions and peppers in a spicy chilli/tomato marinade

CORE MENU

Crispy Chicken Salad (RM 44.50 - regular, RM 30.50 - large)
Crispy chicken strips on a bed of salad greens with potato salad, drizzled with house dressing and garnished with sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumber and semi dried tomatoes. This bowl of heavenly goodness is a great appetizer before your main course. The greens are imported and of the highest quality, so it's freshness is guaranteed as well.

Signature Pork Knuckle (RM 99.00)
This is known as Schweinshaxe in German; with either a roasted ham hock or pork knuckle and this is pretty popular in Bavaria. Here, at Brotzeit, their pork knuckle are oven roasted till crisp and served with homemade beer-infused gravy. As we were snapping away, we could hear crackling sound all over the dish. It is made with lots of detail especially the flower design from the pork skin. There are some sides of potato salad, pickles & sauerkraut to go with the pork knuckle. The meat was quite tender and the skin was so crispy, perfection indeed!

DESSERTS

Sweet & Savoury Duo (RM 29.00)
Chocolate coated bacon with cream, served with sliced strawberries and kiwi. This is something different, especially with combination of salty and sweet from both the bacon and chocolate.

Food: My Oak Bakery Cafe @ Ara Damansara

Ara Damansara is the latest happening area to chill or hang out and I've recently found a gem hidden within this area. My Oak Bakery & Cafe is nestled in the new and quieter side of Ara Damansara but, its definitely worth to pay a visit to this place. Read on to find out why I am absolutely in love with this cafe.

The whole shop is decorated beautifully and the moment you step in, you get this natural, calm feeling from all the greens around.

Some of the buns and pastries which are made fresh daily. By the way, their soft euro buns are a tad bit different from the usual ones you find in other bakeries.

Cakes and desserts for the sweet tooth!

So, we were served the bestsellers of their menu and you'll definitely be in for a surprise because their pastas are so unique here. You can expect a variety of pasta cooked in unthinkable or rather, a different style.

Spicy Seafood Pasta (RM 18.80)
This plate of heavenly goodness is made from clams stock (vongole), giving it that orange-y appearance. So flavorful and fragrant and as I'm typing this, I'm craving for it again, that's just how yummy it is! There are prawns, fish fillet, clams, squid and mussels in this. Although, it is named as spicy seafood pasta as they've added some chilli flakes in it, it's pretty mild and doesn't exactly burn your throat. You can choose to have yours with more fiery oomph, just make a request for it.

Squid Ink Pasta (RM 18.80)
This popular item is the latest trend nowadays, and you can find this at most restaurants. However, this is my first time trying it because I genuinely wouldn't order this if given a choice. It looks like a glob of black pasta and definitely not that appetizing from the way it looks. Surprisingly, this was exceptionally good. The pasta, which is cooked al dente (firm to the bite) is made from squid ink purchased from a local supplier and believe it or not, they actually home made their pasta from scratch. You can also find tiny squids inside the pasta.

Matcha Chicken Burger (RM 15.80)
The unique part of this burger is its buns which are made from green tea. Its something I haven't seen before, considering the numerous amounts of cafe I've been to before. According to the chef, they chose green tea because the combination of both the colour and the smell goes well with the sesame seeds.

Prawn Pink Sauce Fusili (RM 17.80)
A definite must try! One of the chef's creation which uses both tomato sauce and cooking cream to make the 'pink' sauce. Plus this is topped with generous amount of prawns, this is worth your every cent spent. The 'pink' sauce turns out to be very creamy and slightly sour, who knows that it would be such a perfect combination. A comfort food for me!

Just a note, you can choose different type of pasta fro different styles but whichever is stated in the menu is usually the best pairing.

Mixed Nuts Danish (RM 5.90)
This is what every Danish pastry should be like, savoury. light and flaky.

Mixed Fruit Danish (RM 7.90)

Premium Butter Croissant (RM 7.90)
This golden, mouth watering croissant is huge and rich in butter! Its crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, absolutely scrumptious :)

Caramel Macchiato (RM 11.90)

Almond Bavarois (RM 16.00)
Made with premium almond pastry cream, topped with fresh blackberries and raspberries with almond crisp cookies, this dessert has a velvety, mousse-like texture to it. Using cracked almonds, they cook it in caramel to have a combination of sweetness and crunchiness. The ground almond biscuit which served as a topping is similar to macaroons but in minimal sugar.

What's a review without a picture? Teehee.

Food: Pelicana Chicken Malaysia @ E-Curve, Mutiara Damansara

Fried chicken is considered a well accepted snack food in Korea and usually, the Koreans have them with beer. For K-drama fans, I'm sure you guys have watched 'My Love From The Star' starring Kim Soo Hyun which turned both the combination of fried chicken and beer into a new found frenzy.

Anyway, I was invited recently to a food review at Pelicana Korean Fried Chicken at E-Curve, Mutiara Damansara. And, well, I was definitely in for a chicky treat anytime, anyday. Pelicana is a fast food chain originated from Korea itself and no surprise that they were the chosen brand for the fried chicken seen in 'My Love From The Star'.

The store which has a natural, Korean cafe feel to it.

So, before we get to the main dish, we were served some side dishes which is a common part of a Korean meal.

Rice with Black Sesame & Seaweed (RM 4.50)

Musaengchae - Seasoned radish (RM 4.50)

Miyeok Muchim - Seaweed salad (RM 4.50)

Special Pelicana Yellow Sauce (RM 1.00)
This sauce is a must try and it goes so well with the chicken served here. It had a little mustard and wasabi taste to it, and best part is, you could buy some sauce to bring home too.

Chicken Peli Crunchy Chicken 12pcs (RM 56.50)
Fried to perfection, crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Just the perfect recipe for fried chicken and it's not salty or oily at all. Those weight watchers can have their dose of fried chicken at Pelicana without being overwhelmed with guilt.

Spring Onion Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken 14 pcs (RM 32.90)
This was the second choice for those who can't take spicy. The chicken is coated with sweet soy mustard sauce and sprinkled with some spring onions to enhance its flavour. I enjoyed this very much although I dislike sweet stuff.

Charcoal BBQ Peli Yang Nyeon Chicken 14 pcs (RM 32.90)
This was the second spiciest item off the menu. It wasn't that spicy on the first bite but as you go on, you will start feeling the effect. And, it was so pungent that the aftertaste hits you hard. For those who wish to challenge themselves, you can opt to try this but bear in mind, keep a glass of cold water by your side.

Burger Peli Jumbo Fillet Burger (RM 15.50)
Oh, look at the thick juicy chicken fillet in between two sesame seed buns and served with crinkled cut fries!

Peli Spicy D Fish Burger (RM 13.90)

Some pictures with em' delicious chicken!

I would definitely recommend this place to those who are looking for that perfect chicken experience. I'll be visiting again soon, because I'm in desperate need of my monthly dose of good fried chicken!
