Food: Leong's Kitchenette @ USJ21, Subang Jaya

I've been going to many restaurants for review lately. Its usually cafe after cafes, but when I first heard about Leong's Kitchenette, I thought it was just typical Chinese food which I brushed aside. However, last week, I thought that I should try it out myself after hearing good reviews about it from other bloggers.

To my surprise, their food really was top notch and different in its own way. All the dishes served were flavorful and cooked with passion. Located about a stone throw away from the popular Subang Jaya mall, Main Place, this little humble restaurant seems unassuming to anyone who passes by. But, don't judge, this place has its own loyal customers who comes for dinner especially with their families.

Simple, regular restaurant set up but they have some really antique decorations. Be sure to spot them when you're there!

The food served here are low in MSG, salt and oil as they aim to cultivate healthy eating here. I heard that their specialty was the 'Fried Porridge'. Just by the name itself, I was curious of the taste. But, anyway, we ordered drinks before our food arrived.

Ice Lime Jelly (RM 3.00)
This is similar to 'aiyu' jelly which is more familiar to most of us. This drink is refreshing, and perfect on a hot day. A little sweetness coupled with some sourness, one cup is definitely not enough.

FRIED PORRIDGE

Fried Porridge with Mackerel (RM 10.50)
The fried porridge served here is not all brown and burnt as what I've imagined it to be, but rather the porridge is fried for a short period of time together with the other ingredients to enhance its flavour. Garnished with some spring onions, chopped ginger and sesame seed oil, this makes a complete and satisfying meal.

Just look at the generous amount of mackerel fish added inside.

Fried Porridge with Abalone Slices (RM 12.00)
This one was my personal favourite as I absolutely loved the soft texture of the porridge coupled with some chewy abalone slices. The consistency of the porridge was just right and it was garnished similarly to the previous ingredients mentioned above.

Fried Porridge with Salted Egg (RM 6.50, add century egg - RM 1.50)

Fried Porridge with Minced Pork (RM 6.50)

MAIN DISHES

Asam Squid (RM 22.00)

The asam sauce was savoury and combined with the squid, it was a match made in heaven. The squid was chewy and not over cooked at all. This really tantalizes your tastebuds and awaken all your senses. I liked that it wasn't too spicy either, so this is great for those of you who can't stand extremely spicy dishes.

French Beans (RM 10.00-small, RM 14.00-large)
This is the first time I'm having French beans cooked with curry leaves and salted egg. A rather odd combination, but you'd be surprised at how irresistible this dish is.

Pumpkin Home Made Tau Foo (RM 22.00)
Punpkin on its own was never my favourite because of its taste and texture. However, it possesses lots of healthy goodness and when its cooked this way, you don't really taste much of pumpkin.

Hong Kong Style Chicken Wings (RM 22.00)
These chicken wings are really crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. I liked that it isn't oily at all as well. A perfect appetizer before digging into some crabs!

Curry Fish Head (RM 22.00-small, RM 32.00-large)

At such an affordable price, this curry fish head is definitely one of the best and cheapest in town! Loaded with vegetables and a fish head, this one is definitely a must try when you head over to this humble restaurant.

Salt Baked Crabs (RM 65.00 per kg/on promotion)
Crabs are usually the main star of any seafood adventure. This was seasoned with salt and steamed before baking. The meat was extremely fresh and you could literally taste the sweetness or juiciness in just one bite!

Milky Spicy Crabs (RM 65.00 per kg/on promotion)
Buttery curry sauce coating the glorious crabs! For those who are a huge fan of milky buttery sauces, be sure to try this. I assure you won't regret it, who knows, you might even end up licking the crab shells.

Milky Butter Sauce

Deep Fried Mantao with Butter Sauce (RM 7.00 for 6 pcs, RM 9.00 for 9 pcs)
I am absolutely in love with this soft and fluffy mantaos! Deep fried till golden brown, they aren't oil at all and best eaten with the butter sauce.

Beancurd Barley (RM 2.70)
Its very smooth and you can't really taste the blended beancurd. A good dessert to wash down the heavy meal :) And, it's great because it isn't too sweet either.

Looking for a cosy and homey place to chill over the weekends? Head over to La Casa @ Verve Suites, Mont Kiara for that ultimate home cooked meal you've been craving for.

La Casa is a restaurant nestled in the busy township of Mont Kiara which serves Western & Italian cuisine and offers a wide range of cakes as well as pastries to choose from. It's an ideal place even if you would like to enjoy a cup of coffee for tea time.

Oh, by the way, the baristas here serve up some of the best artisan coffee! They cultivate healthy eating here at La Casa and their food is home made without any artificial flavourings or MSG added. The founder, Miss May is originally a web designer, turned restaurateur as she aims to serve hearty meals with friendly service at her restaurant.

The selection of pastries available.

Oh, those heavenly cakes and desserts on display!

A very casual and comfortable dining area.

The woody furnishings matched their concept of serving food in its purest form.

DRINKS

Latte (RM 11.00)

Kiwi Juice (RM 11.00)
This was as fresh as drinking the fruit itself. Their juices are pure and not watery unlike some other places which I've tried before.

BREAKFAST

Granola Muesli with Yogurt (RM 22.00)

This healthy combination of toasted grain, nuts, seeds & dried fruits served with seasonal fresh fruits, honey & homemade yogurt is an ideal breakfast to start your day. This fibre packed meal is a great choice for weight watchers like myself too.

Breakfast Gnocchi (RM 28.00)
Homemade gnocchi with pesto, spicy Italian chicken sausage, egg cocotte & wild rocket with parmesan & balsamic dressing. They make their own sausages here from scratch by the way. I enjoyed their toast bread very much because it was very buttery, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Egg lovers will love this egg cocotte! Soft and creamy, the perfect comfort food :)

One Pan Breakfast (RM 32.00)

Choice of homemade chicken, Spicy Italian chicken or beef sausage served with turkey bacon, roasted cherry tomatoes, sauteed mushroom, roasted potatoes, baked bean, sunny side up, wild rocket & toast. All goodness in one pan and well, you can enjoy a balanced  breakfast of carbs, protein and fibre here.

Truffle Scramble Eggs with Waffles (RM 23.00)

The egg was a little too peppery for me and I didn't like the truffles which was added inside. I guess its an acquired taste after all. But, the waffles here were great, buttery and fluffy, its good to just eat it on its own!

DESSERTS

Brioche French Toast (RM 22.00)
French toast with caramelized apples, popcorn, cream and maple syrup.

Berries Waffles (RM 20.00)
What more can you ask for than waffles with fruits! This one comes with generous amount of mixed berries, caramelised walnut, toasted almond flake, cream & honey. Definitely my favourite of the day!

Picture worthy waffles :)
