Daily: Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival 2016 Media Launch

MEDIA LAUNCH
MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL – MIGF2016

Berjaya Times Square
20th September 2016

High Octane Chefs Announced!

Media from around the world, celebrity guests and thousands of members of the public looked on in awe as the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival (MIGF) and its preview event, Taste MIGF were announced in an action-packed Media Launch at Berjaya Times Square recently.

The event set Kuala Lumpur’s city centre abuzz with a parade of Porsche supercars carrying the High Octane Chefs of MIGF 2016, as well as Festival Royal Patron Tunku Naquiyuddin ibni Tuanku Ja’afar and MIGF Organising Chairman Dato’ Steve Day from the Malaysian Tourism Information Centre on Jalan Ampang to Berjaya Times Square.

A huge crowd eagerly awaited and cheered the arrival of the 34 cars as they pulled up to the shopping mall’s entrance. The cars revved their engines as they came to a halt before the chefs made their way down to the stage area on the lower ground concourse where a stage replete with Harley-Davidson motorcycles set the scene for the official introduction of this year’s Festival restaurants and their chefs.

As guests resumed their seats, leather-clad biker dancers took to the stage for a high-octane performance before superstar magician Dr Moudini wowed guests with a handful of mind-bending tricks. His grandest illusion of all he saved for last, as the spectacular motorcycles on stage were covered with a large black cloth. Quick as a flash, the sheet was pulled away to reveal Dato’ Steve and Tunku Naquiyuddin atop the bikes.

After revving their engines, Dato’ Steve took to the microphone to welcome the assembled crowd to this year’s Festival. The Organising Chairman beckoned in the new era of the Festival, in which ‘Gastronomy’ has replaced the word ‘Gourmet’ in the MIGF acronym. This change reflects the ever-changing landscape of Malaysia’s vibrant dining scene and gives rise to the most diverse lineup of restaurants in the Festival’s 15- year history.

With that, the chefs from said restaurants burst onto the stage one-by-one to much applause from the assembled throng. Familiar faces stood alongside MIGF debutants as the public got its first glimpse of the men and women who will be cooking up a storm throughout the gastronomic extravaganza from 1st -31st October.

After several group shots, the chefs their way down to a specially-created area in which each restaurant showcased one dish from their Festival Menus. Tunku Naquiyuddin, Dato’ Steve and all of the guests made their way around the stations feasting their eyes on the mouth-watering dishes and whetting their appetites before this weekend’s culinary affair.

Taste MIGF, which will take place at Berjaya Times Square from 11am to 10pm on Saturday the 24th and Sunday 25th September 2016, will allow tourists and locals alike to sample food from all the festival restaurants as they gather together under one roof in a specially designed Theatre of Cuisines.

All they need to do is buy Gourmet Dollars at the venue on the day of the event or in advance at a discount at www.taste.migf.cpm. Taste MIGF will also feature a Gourmet Village and a range of Master Chef cooking classes, as well as a special cooking demonstration by 3 Michelin, starred chef Albert Au.

Daily: Hassle Free Shopping with EZbuy!

Have you heard of EZBuy before? For the uninitiated, it is a website where you can shop and purchase all type of items, or you can even purchase items on the famous shopping site, Taobao by choosing the 'Buy For Me' section.

For those who always faced difficulties getting stuffs on Taobao because you simply can't read Chinese, all you have to do is copy and paste the link on to the tab and it will re-direct you to the page, complete with the total amount of the item in RM.

This is the item link I would like to purchase after browsing through Taobao

Here is the page on EZBuy after pasting the Taobao link

I find it so convenient, especially because I'm a skeptic when it comes to purchasing items on Taobao for fear that it may end up missing and I wouldn't know who to contact for my parcel as I'm not fluent in Mandarin at all. Buying through EZBuy solves that headache as they are an agent who will deal directly with the online store and get the items sorted out.

If you are someone who enjoys shopping, I would suggest that you join Prime as you can ship everything you want at only RM 8.80 nett for international shipping fee regardless of parcel size or weight. While you are shopping on the site, just look out for the Prime label to enjoy the benefits.

MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL

From 1-31 October, the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival proper begins, showcasing some of the best restaurants in the country. During this time, Special Festival Menus will be presented by each of the participating restaurants and are available at special Festival prices designed to make it easier than ever to experience the sumptuous food for which these venues have earned their reputations. The theme for this year’s Festival is High Octane Chefs – an apt title considering that the ever-popular Taste MIGF takes place on the weekend between the Singapore and Malaysian F1 Grand Prix races, during which the city is expected to be packed with international motoring enthusiasts.
Reflecting the evolution of the dining scene in Malaysia, MIGF now stands for the Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival and not the previous ‘Gourmet Festival’. Whereas premium dining was once limited to the usual staples in a few five-star hotels, restaurants of all types have sprang up over the years offering many types of dining experiences. This year’s lineup of participating restaurants is among the best and most diverse in the Festival’s 15-year history. The Olive, one of the signature outlets of Genting Highlands and winner of the coveted Golden Cauldron Award for Best All-Round Restaurant of MIGF 2015 returns with Chef Radzuan Hamzah once again cooking up sensational Western Continental creations. The Olive is accompanied by fellow Genting participant, LTITUDE Restaurant, Bar & Lounge. Italian food has always been a mainstay on the Festival roster and this year, the much-loved cuisine is once again well represented with Marini’s on 57, Neroteca and Senja returning to the Festival fold alongside new entrant Savini Ristorante Italiano. MIGF favourite Dynasty, from Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel, returns with some of the city’s finest Chinese offerings; while The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s Five Sen5es is also back after a two year hiatus, offering premium Cantonese fare. Berjaya Times Square Hotel’s Samplings On The Fourteenth Restaurant makes its fifth Festival appearance this year, serving up fine Western Classic fare, while Ruyi & Lyn are back to dazzle with their innovative Pan Asian cuisine.

On the French side, two new players make an appearance – 2OX, a charming French bistro located in The Row, and DC Restaurant, an exciting new restaurant helmed by Le Cordon Bleu award winning graduate Darren Chin A group of seafood specialists make their Festival debut, including Southern Rock Seafood Kitchen, Unique Seafood PJ23 and The Elite Seafood Restaurant. From Irish premium oysters to South African abalone, these eateries offer KL’s finest ocean treasures. Adding a dash of spice to the lineup is returning restaurant Aliyaa Island Restaurant & Bar, and newcomer Cinnamon, brightening up the spread with colourful Sir Lankan cuisine. For a taste of authentic home cooked Penang Nyonya cuisine, head to LHH Straits Chinese Kitchen which also makes its debut, along with traditional Malay restaurant Ketuhar and Dato’ Yaakob Fazley’s eatery, Suka Sucre Bistro. Authentic flavours from the Land of the Rising Sun can be had at new Japanese restaurant Yoshinari and if you fancy a spot of cricket with your meal, The Sticky Wicket might be just up your alley. Meanwhile, Imara Mediterranean Cuisine brings a blend of delights from countries including Greece, Lebanon, Cyprus, Spain and other countries surrounding the basin. Rounding off the list as we go to print, are the purveyors of premium steamboat at Yezi, where some of the capital’s most unique broths can be found, and premium steakhouse Pampas, located in the revamped cluster of old shop-houses now known as Old Malaya. I shop online most of the time because its so much more convenient than driving out to a mall and going through the hassle of finding a parking. There are some sites which are my favourite and one of it is Lazada. They always offer discounts on items and they even have additional price cut offs on certain days when you pay using card. Their website is so organised and they sort their items into different categories as well. That's why I enjoy scrolling around on the websites for some deals. If you're a fan of branded goods, I have some fantastic news for you!

Lazada is currently having the 'Big Brand Sale' from 5th to 11th September and the items are all on 85% off! From fashion, jewellery, eyewear and travel items, you can browse through and find your favourite brands at discounted prices. This discounts seem almost unbelievable, but as Lazada deals directly with the brands, they are able to source these items at these amazing prices! The deal was too good to miss out on, so I got myself a pair of shades from Ray-Ban.

The packaging it came in

For those who are skeptical of purchasing these branded goods online, worry not, as they have proper labels as they are indeed original products. The box was also sealed when I received it and it wasn't tampered before.

By the way, *3 on the box indicates that it has high protection against sun glares.

Love the sunnies box, hard and solid. Perfect to store my new found love in it.

This is the useful information booklet you can find inside the box. The shades have high optical resolution and are impact resistant as well.

Here is the much loved shades! What I really love about the shades is that it is quite light and doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. At the same time, it doesn't feel wobbly or unsteady when I wear it.

Thanks Ray-Ban for sponsoring me this new pair of shades!

So, what are you waiting for? Shop away before the deal is gone!
