Food: Angcle Peoh Restaurant @ Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Penang is the food haven of Malaysia, no doubt. Mention Penang and the first thing that crosses my mind is definitely the scrumptious bowls of 'asam laksa' which we Malaysians have grown to love through these years. So, where is the best 'asam laksa' you can find without driving all the way up north?

Well, I've recently discovered a gem. Angcle Peoh Restaurant which is located at the busiest area of Klang serves authentic 'asam laksa' at affordable prices all the way from the Penang Ayer Itam market.

Uncle Ang or more fondly known as 'Angcle' and in pronunciation as uncle is busy in the kitchen, whipping up bowls of freshly made noodles. His story began back in the 60s when he used to help his mother sell 'asam laksa' daily at the famous Ayer Itam market. His mother would carry a rattan basket for 4 km from their house to the market, a real feat for a lady.

Uncle Ang was only seven by then and it took them 10 years before they finally own a pedicab and then a small lorry consecutively.

The kitchen, oh, look at those amazing ingredients.

Just take a look at the lunch crowd on a weekend! The food here definitely speaks for itself.

This homey little outlet sees at least three generations working together to make it successful. Uncle Ang daughter, Ms Ang Kar Bee helps to run the shop as well with her husband and daughters too.

Asam Laksa (RM 6.90)
A bowl of slippery noodles and tons of fresh sardines which we have loved ever since we were introduced to it, I'm sure none of you out there can say no to this. The recipe which was passed down over the years was as authentic as 'asam laksa' should be. A total of 4 hours is used to boil the broth into this thick texture.

There were so many ingredients in this bowl of heavenly goodness. To name a few, there are sliced onions, ginger flower, cucumber and bird eye chillies for that extra kick. Garnished with some fresh mint leaves, this is worth every single cent you're spending on it.

Char Koey Teow with Duck Egg (RM 8.90)
Duck egg gives that extra fragrance and 'oomph' to your regular char koay teow. Juicy, succulent prawns, chives, bean sprouts and cockles all tossed together with koay teow and I've gotta admit that this dish is pretty sinful but I guess hitting the gym for this is worth it. And, the secret is pork oil which is used to cook this.

The portion is pretty generous for such an affordable price. I would definitely order this again when I return soon enough.

 Prawn Mee (RM 6.90)
A huge serving of prawns, pork, eggs, bean sprouts, kangkung and fried shallots. This prawn noodles is rich in flavour and just right in terms of its spiciness. To make the broth, the prawn shells were fried and blended, then boiled for at least 1 1/2 hour. The 'belacan' is homemade while the pork is marinated for its tender, juicy texture.

Curry Laksa (RM 6.90)
First thing I notice is that this bowl of curry is served with 'sotong' instead of chicken curry. Ms Ang said, "patrons usually prefer something smaller in size because they are usually office workers who do not want to dirty their shirt after a bowl of curry".

It's something different to have curry with 'sotong' but it was good either way. The dried chillies are stone grind and mixed with serai, lengkuas and turmeric respectively. I liked how the 'santan' (coconut milk) is not too overwhelming in this bowl.

Rojak (Rm 6.00)
For this bowl of fruit rojak, they had to cook the sauce for a total of 5 hours. And, take note, Penang rojak does not have prawn crackers, instead, they put 'char koey' in it :)

ABC Ice Kacang (RM 5.00)
Oh, this is filled with sweet corn, grass jelly, red bean and milk to make that ice kacang you love as a child. Here, they use a rose extract instead of syrup which is a tad bit less sweeter and palm sugar before serving.

Cendol (RM 5.00)
The cendol is home made here and the taste is indeed different that the commercial ones. Trust me you will have to try this!

Me posing with the bowl of cendol :)

Well, I think for those who are looking for a decent place to enjoy some true Penang delicacies, head over here and trust me, you will not regret it. I find this place really comfortable and the way they preserve the recipes over generation amazes me. It's because of people like Uncle Ang and his daughter that we still get to enjoy good food up to this day.

Food: 2013 BBT One Restaurant & Bar @ Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Have you guys heard about the new kid in town? 2013 BBT One Restaurant & Bar has only been opened for 5 months and they were full house by night. This place's cosy atmosphere was comfortable for those who would want to dine in with their families or those who are looking for a fun night out with their friends.

I particularly liked the ambience of the restaurant which had that old, rusty feel to it.

The exquisitely designed bar which I loved, although I can't really take alcohol.

See the stage in the last picture? We were lucky to be serenaded by the live band after 9 pm.

I was famished because I had a pretty early lunch, so when dinner was served, I was on cloud nine! We were served some starters or better known as 'tapas' in the menu.

Belacan Chicken Wings
Finger lickin’ good! This deep fried chicken wings which comes in a set of 3 pairs was scrumptious. It was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It wasn’t oily and it’s perfect for those who are health conscious like me. I would recommend this even to those who don’t fancy ‘belacan’, because the smell isn’t pungent and the ‘belacan’ flavour was rather mild too. For those who prefer an added kick to your chicken wings, request for more home made ‘belacan’ as a dip.

Potato Croquette with Lemon Cream Sauce
For those uninitiated, croquette is a small cylinder of puréed salmon, potatoes (in this case) or some other item that is usually breaded or deep fried. Well, this golden balls were heavenly. I’m a major potato lover and I crave for mashed potatoes all the time. This deep-fried cheese, potato, onions and carrot mix served together with the tangy lemon cream sauce was delectably superb. Once again, this was crispy on the outside and as you bite into it, the softness of the potatoes will literally just melt in your mouth.

2013 Special Salad
Salads are never my favourite, but this bowl of goodness changed my perception of salads. The dressings used were the usual thousand island and a little hint of sesame dressing for that extra sweetness. The generous amount of prawns and smoked bacon in this bowl definitely was worth every single cent spent on it.

Oven Baked Crab
This item is usually not in the menu and would be made only upon special request. Look at the glorious cheese on the crabs. I would prefer to call this stuffed crabs, because the filling was made out of mushroom, crab and pork. It was a comfort food and something different from the norm. The coleslaw is home made so do try it as well!

Grilled Salmon with White Mushroom Cream Sauce
The salmon was fragrant but a bit dry on the first bite. Do drizzle some white mushroom sauce over it, it will become more flavorful and less dry. The fried salmon skin and mashed potatoes were my favourite out of this dish. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy, while the salmon skin was as crispy as potato chips.

Lamb Pasta (Mamak Style)
A unique dish out of the menu, where Asian meets Western. This fusion recipe is perfect and to enhance the flavour, lard oil was used. The pasta was coated with eggs which is similar to 'mee goreng' (fried noodles) served in mamak. It wasn't spicy which is great for me and I guarantee that this dish will surely tantalize your taste buds.

Mutton Curry with Toasted Bread
The recipe is a combination of both Indian and Nyonya methods of cooking mutton curry. It was infused with spices and was very fragrant. The imported mutton which was simmered over low fire for 3 hours was tender and the musky smell was amazingly absent in this dish.

Pork Chop
Oh, I love meat! This tempting, lip smacking pork chop is another item which has not been included in the menu yet. It was bursting with flavours with every single bite I took. Surprisingly, it wasn't oily and the meat was tender and juicy, just like how pork chops should be. The mushroom cream sauce which was served with it was a great addition.

Lamb Pizza
They always save the best for last! It was the same with this lamb pizza which was the most amazing of them all. This piping hot pizza which was generously topped with cheese, lamb, onions and capsicum was too good to be true. Its crunchy thin crust was a perfect combination and my cravings for pizza were finally satisfied! Mamma mia :)

Green Passion Mocktail
My drink for the night! I can't drink alcohol so definitely cocktails are a no-no for me. Mocktails are exactly the same thing as cocktails, except the alcohol isn't added. Pretty refreshing and lemony, perfect to wash down the heavy meal I had.

For those who live in Klang and are seeking for good food, I highly recommend that you guys try this place out. Here's the details you will need.

Food: Royal Gourmet Fine Dining @ Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang

If you're looking for fine dining in Klang, I advise you to look no further and head over to Royal Gourmet Fine Dining at Premiere Hotel. This restaurant serves authentic Chinese cuisine and is a perfect place to have family dinner over the weekends. It does look pretty fancy with the traditional decorations and I was immediately reminded of elaborate wedding dinners as I entered the restaurant.

So, skipping straight to the point of this post. Here are the pictures!

Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup with Chinese Herbs
This is a bowl of heavenly goodness which will definitely revitalize the soul! The extensive amount of traditional Chinese herbs used to prepare this soup contributed to its fragrance & taste. According to the chef, the main ingredient was 'Hak fu chiong' or 'Black Tiger Palm' which is a mushroom like fungus and it was definitely different from other soups I've tried previously.

Steamed Sea Grouper in Village Style
I have never been a huge fan of steamed fish in Chinese restaurant because they usually taste bland. However, this dish definitely deserved a thumbs-up from me as the fish was steamed to perfection with the sweetness of the meat tasted in every bite. The cilantro leaves and carrots garnish complimented the fish and the meat was tender as well as juicy.

Stir Fried Baby French Bean with Top Shell
This vegetable dish had that homey feel to it and I enjoyed it very much. The french bean was crisp and the chef was pretty creative to add some chewy top shell clam into the dish. It was extremely fragrant and not oily at all.

Steamed Minced Chicken with Salted Fish
This dish is usually cooked using minced pork, but uniquely, this was made using chicken instead. For a smoother texture, the chef specified that he used chicken thigh. Not only that, the chicken meat was minced manually instead of a food processor to achieve the perfect consistency. I thought that the idea of adding eggs on the top was pretty clever as well :)

Baked Lamb Rack with Special Sauce
This was definitely hands down the best dish of the night. I am a lamb lover and I love it in basically, any style. The sauce was had a hint of sweetness and the meat was absolutely juicy. The meat was marinated for 2 hours using various ingredients such as red wine, garlic and shallots before being baked.

Double Boiled Saussurea Involucrate (Wild Snow Lotus) with Snow Fungus & Red Dates
I love desserts to wash down everything after a heavy meal! This was rather fragrant and sweet. However, I didn't really enjoy it because of the snow fungus and magnolia petals which was added.

All in all, it was a pretty decent 5-star kind of meal. If you guys are interested to head over soon, here's the address and contact number :)
