Food: D' Lee Deli Cafe @ Casa Tropicana

I never really favor this area, in fact, I probably only been here once in the past year. However, according to my sister, Casa Tropicana is a pretty happening place by night. D' Lee Deli Cafe is one of the reason why you should head here if you are just looking for a simple place for drinks and desserts.

Cosy atmosphere with warm lights to chill and relax after a long day.

Some of the cakes and drinks available here.

Love the mini little efforts they put in to decorate this place.

Creamy Button Mushroom and Ham Sandwiches (RM 13.90)
Out of all the sandwiches we had that night, this was the best. The sandwiches are made using a 'panini' machine and they came out pretty cute.

Affogato (RM 10)
Creamy vanilla ice cream and coffee that was so good it literally melts in your mouth. The only affogato I have tried, tested and approved!

Belgian Waffle with Blueberries & Milk Chocolate Sauce (RM 15)
The waffles were pretty crispy and for so many blueberries, its definitely worth every cent.

Chocolate Waffle with Strawberries & Salted Caramel Sauce (RM 15)
Perfect for a strawberries lover and I loved the combination of chocolate & vanilla ice cream.

Oreo Cheesecake (RM 9)
Rich, smooth cheesecake with a buttery base which keeps you wanting more.

Big Breakfast
Your ultimate breakfast with sauteed mushrooms, eggs (you can choose from the option of omelette, scrambled or sunny side up), sliced hams, bacons, waffle and some lettuce. This isn't even the menu yet, but it will be soon.

Daily: Unpleasant & Horrible Experience @ Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain, Bercham,Perak

* WARNING: THIS POST IS A HIGHLY SENSITIVE ONE, DON'T JUDGE IF YOU INTEND TO READ FURTHER.

Last weekend, we headed down to Ipoh on a family food trip. We had a great time there but I feel the need to share a horrible experience which I personally encounter at one of the restaurant in Bercham, Perak. Bercham is a small town at the suburbs of Perak, just 40 minutes drive from Ipoh.

So, it's unusual of me to blog about my terrible experiences at restaurants, be it the service or the quality of the food served. However, this time, it was so awful that I would like as much people to know about this place and to be warned before you head there. We were recommended to try out this Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain by one of my mom's close friend, apparently they had the freshest seafood cooked in really unique ways there.

Before heading to the restaurant, we actually used Google Maps to locate the area and the comments as well as reviews which were written stated that the shop was 'Completely Closed'. We found it odd and double checked with a hawker by the road side if he knew whether it was still open for business. By the time we reached it was around 5.45 PM, just in time for dinner. We were shocked because there were more than half of the tables taken up already by that time. Later, we discovered that they opened at 4.30 PM, which explains the amount of people.

So, the usual, we found a table on the right side of the restaurant which is used to accommodate smaller groups of people. Bear in mind the restaurant is divided into two sections, with the left side having larger tables for 10 people. We sat and waited patiently for approximately 15 mins and I'm telling you, NO ONE, not a single soul came to take our order. So, my dad went to ask the cashier girl and she mentioned only the boss could take orders.

Hearing that, I quickly kept a lookout for the boss (a huge, bald headed man of about 50). As I was sitting facing the kitchen area, I waited for him to come out and quickly raised my hand to call him over. He was quite a distance so he just gave me a nod and looked away. Alright, so next, I thought he was gonna take a pen and paper to come over to our table.

Little did I know, he didn't bother coming to take the order, instead he went to the larger group areas to jot down their orders. Well, the worst part was that it was 3 to 4 tables who reached much, much later than us. Okay, I was annoyed at this point. Oh, so, I figured, there's favouritism going on here. According to my dad, this boss favours the larger tables because they obviously had more orders which equates to more earnings for him. Are you bloody serious?

So, I walked over and decided to stand behind him, waiting for him to finish taking the order. The below is the conversation. It was all in Cantonese and I've tried my best to translate word by word.

Me: Boss, can you please come over to our table to get our order? We have been waiting for a long time already.

Boss: What? You wanna eat or not? You tell me, do you wanna eat? *he was raising his voice already*

Me: Hello, obviously I want to eat, or else why would I come and ask you to take the order?

Boss: Okay, if you wanna eat, then you better go and sit down now. Right now.

So bloody rude. The fact that he was raising his voice for the whole restaurant to hear our conversation is unbelievable and plain rude. Plus, he is probably suggesting that I'd better stay quiet or else, just leave. Honestly, he has a face you wanna just slap across, trust me. And, those who know me will know that I'm a very calm and patient person who doesn't have a bad temper.

Obviously I walked across back to my seat and my dad scoffed at the rudeness of the bald headed man. Everyone was annoyed with the fact that he was so stuck up and arrogant while dealing with paying customers. Fine, we came all the way here anyway so, we waited for him to come over and surprisingly when he came over, he was all nice and sweet.

It was totally fake when he said, 'Oh, leng lui (pretty girl), what would you like to order?'. Well, if you had that tad bit sense in you, bald headed man, do you think I still want to talk to you?

I ignored him and crossed my arms while my dad placed the order. Then, I decided I'm gonna blog about the stinking, filthy service here so that everyone will know of this. I went around to take many pictures around the restaurant and I made sure he saw me doing so. In fact, my parents and sister were also taking pictures as we are a family of bloggers after all.

After the food were served, I guess he got paranoid cause we were snapping away. That's when he   came over and tried to explain.

Boss: So, leng lui (pretty girl), fast or not I served the food? Don't worry, here, I take the order one shot and put it in at the same time. So, its quite fast.

Me: ..... Hmm yeah good for you. *I was too annoyed to speak to him, honestly*.

Okay, so here's what we ate and the bill came up to RM 196 for four dishes. Pretty costly for the bad service they provide. Sorry I won't even bother explaining the food cause he ruined my mood to even talk about it now.

When we came back from Ipoh, my mum spoke to her friend who suggested this place and that aunty said that she had encounter this experience before too. Apparently, he will tell those people who don't have a table, 'If you wanna eat, then you wait. Either that, or else, just walk out, I don't care'.

Does it mean that if you have a good business, it gives you the green light to be rude to your customers? Basically, as ironic as it is, the name of the shop literally translates to 'Different Taste' in English. Well, I guess they were suggesting the unpalatable taste that you will get here. So, if you decide to eat at this place, bear in mind, avoid talking to the boss and just wait for him to come over because the service is rotten here.

Or else, just don't go. There are so many other good food with the boss or staff being at least respectable to their customers.

I suggest, not worth to lose your pride over this.

Food: Slurp Cafe @ Dataran 3 Two Square, Petaling Jaya

To huge fans of cartoon and anime out there, I've found the perfect place for you guys to get both good food and entertainment at the same time! Slurp Cafe at Dataran 3 Two Square has various collectible figurines and items which you will never find anywhere else.

The interior of the cafe which exudes a warm and homey feeling as you step in. As you can see, the whole shop is beautifully decorated with all the collectors' item, name it and trust me you'd probably find it there.

Some of the cakes and drinks available here.

Iron Man head piece!

Wow, even the counter where they prepare the drinks is decorated with artistic drawings.

The other toys which you can admire while sipping your cup of coffee.

With the recent return of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, fans can now head over to this lovely cafe to grab a picture with them cute little Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, just to name a few. It doesn't matter if you don't really fancy the movie, you will definitely fall in love with the small figurines. :)

This cafe has a good concept, in my opinion, mainly targetting avid fans of these characters. But, the best part is their food is pretty yummy and affordable too. Their menu features Japanese fusion food which you can't find anywhere else. Some of the available items have a touch of local flavours too, just scroll down to read more!

Okonomiyaki (RM 29.90)
For the price you pay, the serving is large enough to be shared between two persons for a meal. Basically, this is a normal Japanese pancake but here, they added a little twist to it by including some fresh seafood goodness; namely squids, prawns and scallops. Not to forget, there are slices of bacon in this too. The special Okonomi sauce and Japanese mayonnaise which was added on top, gave this dish a real burst of flavours. Worth to try!

The Best Chicken Salad Ever (RM 14.90)
This dish may be deceiving at first because it looks simply just like your regular chicken salad bowl. But, guess what, there is something under your piles of lettuce, carrots and chicken breast.

Ta-da! There's udon noodles with sesame dressing which makes this a balanced meal. You have your greens, your protein and carbs in just one bowl, isn't that amazing?

Japanese Omurice (RM 19.90)
Mentaiko Guru
These are the real omurice and prepared the right way here with country chicken eggs. First impression of this dish was that the omelette looked too much like durian flesh.

The rice is cooked with mentaiko (fish roe) and when the omelette is cut, it gives this nice scrambled egg right on top of the rice.

You can choose to add on this chicken chop with your omurice.

Maggi Murtabak (RM 23.90)
This looks like a regular burger, but guess what, they decided to be a little creative and swap the burger buns with Maggi curry instant noodles. So, you still have your egg and burger patty, the only difference is you get crispy 'buns' wrapping them.

Some wedges served together with the murtabak.

Sambal Pasta (RM 24.90)
This is definitely fusion food with a mix of our favourite Malaysian sambal with Italian pasta.

The pasta is stir fried and served with a hard boiled egg as well as some nuts, anchovies, prawns and cockles, just like your regular nasi lemak. This was pretty good and flavorful, surprisingly pasta actually goes well with our sambal prawns and cockles.

Strawberry Fountain
This absolutely good dessert which is made of strawberries from top to bottom is what every strawberry lover needs. Just a heads up, this has strawberry sorbet, vanilla ice cream, yoghurt ice cream, Japanese strawberries and blue berries too.

Mango Blast
This is pretty similar to the above one except for the obvious, that this is made from mangoes. A great combination of mango sorbet, vanilla ice cream, yoghurt ice cream, Indian mangoes and blue berries.

Food: Angcle Peoh Restaurant @ Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang

Penang is the food haven of Malaysia, no doubt. Mention Penang and the first thing that crosses my mind is definitely the scrumptious bowls of 'asam laksa' which we Malaysians have grown to love through these years. So, where is the best 'asam laksa' you can find without driving all the way up north?

Well, I've recently discovered a gem. Angcle Peoh Restaurant which is located at the busiest area of Klang serves authentic 'asam laksa' at affordable prices all the way from the Penang Ayer Itam market.

Uncle Ang or more fondly known as 'Angcle' and in pronunciation as uncle is busy in the kitchen, whipping up bowls of freshly made noodles. His story began back in the 60s when he used to help his mother sell 'asam laksa' daily at the famous Ayer Itam market. His mother would carry a rattan basket for 4 km from their house to the market, a real feat for a lady.

Uncle Ang was only seven by then and it took them 10 years before they finally own a pedicab and then a small lorry consecutively.

The kitchen, oh, look at those amazing ingredients.

Just take a look at the lunch crowd on a weekend! The food here definitely speaks for itself.

This homey little outlet sees at least three generations working together to make it successful. Uncle Ang daughter, Ms Ang Kar Bee helps to run the shop as well with her husband and daughters too.

Asam Laksa (RM 6.90)
A bowl of slippery noodles and tons of fresh sardines which we have loved ever since we were introduced to it, I'm sure none of you out there can say no to this. The recipe which was passed down over the years was as authentic as 'asam laksa' should be. A total of 4 hours is used to boil the broth into this thick texture.

There were so many ingredients in this bowl of heavenly goodness. To name a few, there are sliced onions, ginger flower, cucumber and bird eye chillies for that extra kick. Garnished with some fresh mint leaves, this is worth every single cent you're spending on it.

Char Koey Teow with Duck Egg (RM 8.90)
Duck egg gives that extra fragrance and 'oomph' to your regular char koay teow. Juicy, succulent prawns, chives, bean sprouts and cockles all tossed together with koay teow and I've gotta admit that this dish is pretty sinful but I guess hitting the gym for this is worth it. And, the secret is pork oil which is used to cook this.

The portion is pretty generous for such an affordable price. I would definitely order this again when I return soon enough.

 Prawn Mee (RM 6.90)
A huge serving of prawns, pork, eggs, bean sprouts, kangkung and fried shallots. This prawn noodles is rich in flavour and just right in terms of its spiciness. To make the broth, the prawn shells were fried and blended, then boiled for at least 1 1/2 hour. The 'belacan' is homemade while the pork is marinated for its tender, juicy texture.

Curry Laksa (RM 6.90)
First thing I notice is that this bowl of curry is served with 'sotong' instead of chicken curry. Ms Ang said, "patrons usually prefer something smaller in size because they are usually office workers who do not want to dirty their shirt after a bowl of curry".

It's something different to have curry with 'sotong' but it was good either way. The dried chillies are stone grind and mixed with serai, lengkuas and turmeric respectively. I liked how the 'santan' (coconut milk) is not too overwhelming in this bowl.

Rojak (Rm 6.00)
For this bowl of fruit rojak, they had to cook the sauce for a total of 5 hours. And, take note, Penang rojak does not have prawn crackers, instead, they put 'char koey' in it :)

ABC Ice Kacang (RM 5.00)
Oh, this is filled with sweet corn, grass jelly, red bean and milk to make that ice kacang you love as a child. Here, they use a rose extract instead of syrup which is a tad bit less sweeter and palm sugar before serving.

Cendol (RM 5.00)
The cendol is home made here and the taste is indeed different that the commercial ones. Trust me you will have to try this!

Me posing with the bowl of cendol :)

Well, I think for those who are looking for a decent place to enjoy some true Penang delicacies, head over here and trust me, you will not regret it. I find this place really comfortable and the way they preserve the recipes over generation amazes me. It's because of people like Uncle Ang and his daughter that we still get to enjoy good food up to this day.
