Food: Tim Ho Wan Restaurant @ Mid Valley City

I've finally tried this famous and glorified dim sum restaurant, Tim Ho Wan which originated from Hong Kong. This Michelin Star restaurant has ventured into Malaysia for almost half a year now and thanks to support from loyal fans, Tim Ho Wan's business had been blooming ever since.

Recently, I was invited to savour and try out some of their newly crafted delicacies from their Evening Specials (5 to 10 PM) & Chef's Recommendations menu. The selections available will definitely surprise you and keep you wanting more! Tim Ho Wan boasts on their daily hand-made dim sum and guarantees the freshness of every item on their menu.

Despite being a dim sum restaurant, their concept is more to modern chic with a relaxing and comfortable ambience as you step in.

For those who prefer a quieter, private dining session, you can book the area upstairs with a minimum spend of RM 50 per person. If you would like a room all to yourself, you may opt for that too with the minimum amount spent being RM 380.

DIM SUM

Quail Egg Siew Mai (RM 11.80)
Your regular simple dim sum treat, siew mai topped with some really cute quail eggs. I liked the difference in texture between the dense fillings of the siew mai and the bouncy quail eggs. They definitely ace the food presentation part with some black sesame seeds as decoration on top of the eggs.

Steamed Fish Maw with Prawn Paste (RM 14.80)
This mouth watering dim sum is fit for a king! With chewy fish maw as its base topped with some  prawn paste, this is guaranteed to leave you wanting more, as one is definitely not enough. Bear in mind, they really hand chopped their prawn paste here.

Dumpling with Spicy Sauce (RM 15.80)
Dumplings served in spicy black vinegar sauce. I remember that the fillings were mostly made up of chives. Something fresh and flavorful, worth to try!

NOODLES

Crispy Noodles with Shredded Pork (RM 14.80)
This is pretty similar to our regular 'kong fu' noodles, but the difference is that the noodles here are thinner and crispier. They serve both separately so when you are ready just mix both together and you're good to go!

Braised Pork Knuckle Noodles - Dry (RM 19.80)
At one glance, one can easily mistaken this as your wantan noodles. But no, the texture of their noodles are much bouncier and they are thinner as well. They have a special recipe to manually make their own noodles from scratch.

Wonton Noodle - Dry (RM 15.80)
This dish is similar to the previous one, except you get a generous serving of four wontons filled with prawns. Value for money and definitely will satisfy your cravings for freshly made wontons.

Wonton Noodle - Soup (RM 15.80)
You may opt for a soup version of this famous Hong Kong dish!

SOUP & SNACKS

Chicken Soup with Chinese Yam and Wolfberry (RM 14.80)
For the amount of time and effort spent for this soup, its definitely worth every single cent. This flavorful and sweet double boiled soup is loaded with real goodness of chicken, pork, chicken feet, wolfberry and red dates. Some red wine and Shao Hsing wine was added before setting it on the stove to double boil for a total of 4 hours. Good for nourishing the body!

Salted Fried Fish Skin (RM 10.80)
So crispy and addictive! This fried fish skin is made from 'ling' fish and it's only available at Tim Ho Wan, 1 Utama branch. I find that this isn't oily at all in comparison to those I've tried previously at other restaurants.

 Cereal Chicken Nuggets (RM 15.80)
Crispy chicken thigh coated with Nestum cereals and deep fried till golden brown. The chicken was pre-marinated before mixing it with flour, baking powder, oil, water and glutinous rice flour for that added crisp to it.

Yang Zhou Fried Rice (RM 16.80)

Freshly Baked Egg Tarts (RM 9.80)
This famous egg tarts are the crowd favourites with their melt in the mouth, flaky and crumby crusts. The buttery crust and the sweet, custard like egg in the center makes this a great dessert choice. Try it for sure, and I guarantee you won't regret it if you're a pastry fan like myself.

  1. This restaurant is truly amazing. I was just finding recommendations for such a great restaurant for my company dinner party. I would like to book the entire hall as I want to organize some fun activities too. I have found various company party ideas too for this event.
